Today, I published Episode 3, The Evil Pennywhistle.
While each episode of Werewolf of Connemara is a story in itself, E3 will eventually turn out to be important to the overall plot and the mystery of Fergal’s lost family. It’s very much inspired by the history of Irish music, in particular the historical, mystical and magical powers of this music as practiced by the olden bards. The Bishop’s name is not by accident either, and has strong historical connotations.
In ancient times, Irish music was divided roughly into three classes: sleep inducing music, grief inducing music, and war inspiring music. A namesake (no relation) has written elegantly on that classification. For the latter – war music – you had the ancient practice of Irish harpers and bagpipers leading armies into battle. That’s why I chose an ancient Irish Air with lyrics by Thomas Moore (1779-1852), The Minstrel Boy, to open E3 – “The Minstrel Boy to the war has gone in the ranks of death you will find him…” Such music is integral to the plot…
All music is by my good self and all complaints can be directed to the DeLaSalle Brothers who taught me the pennywhistle back in the day.
Thank you for listening and E4 coming soon!
